Rich Berberian, Jr., PGA (Vesper Country Club) was ranked #16 in the 2023 PGA of America Rolex Player of the Year standings. Berberian won the 103rd New England PGA Section Championship in September of 2023. His record-breaking score of 59 in round 1 at Agawam Hunt paved the way for him to secure the Mahan Trophy with the lowest NEPGA Section Championship score in the tournament’s 103-year history, at 18-under. Berberian ranked 16th on the PGA Player of the Year list with 483 points from the victory.
Jim Sheerin, PGA (LM) of the New England PGA Section, won the PGA of America Half Century Championship at the Ryder Course in Port St. Lucie, FL. on Friday, January 12th. Sheerin shot a 1-under 70 to edge two-time defending champion Roy Vucinich (71) of Moon Township, Pa., by just one shot. Sheerin, a PGA Master Professional who retired from Abenaqui Country Club, made two birdies against a lone bogey to finish at even-par 142.
“It’s a big surprise,” Sheerin said. “I played very consistently. I three-putted the second hole and that was my only blip. I’ve been coming here for 23 years and it’s nice to finally win one.”
