Scottsdale, Arizona. Billy Martin, a 30+ year member of the PGA of America, is launching his new enterprise, Billy Martin Golf International (BMG). BMG will offer Martin’s proven instruction philosophy through a combination of in-person lessons at his Orlando, Florida and Shanghai, China locations and on the GOLF LIVE Virtual Coaching platform.
“I am excited to launch my own golf instruction business after all these years,” states Martin. “I have spent the majority of my career working with students of all abilities in Asia including memorable stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and now China. I have always had the desire to come back to the States and put all my experience and teaching philosophy into play here. My teaching style is to not get overly technical with the golf swing. We focus on the key fundamentals and then address how our students can play to the best of their ability and goals. At the end of the day, I want each student to enjoy their time on the golf course by shooting the score they want to shoot – or lower. When we accomplish this, it is a lot of fun for my students and myself.”
To accomplish Billy’s goal of developing players in the US and China simultaneously, he is using a new technology, GOLF LIVE, that will allow him to instruct both in-person and remotely. Using GOLF LIVE’s remote video capture and analysis, he can connect with my students anytime, anywhere, as if we are standing on the lesson tee side by side. He will offer different membership levels based on the student’s commitment to improve.
Prior to forging his career overseas, Billy spent time caddying for Mr. Jack Nicklaus. This firsthand experience allowed Martin to study how Jack approached all aspects of the game, including Jack’s respect for adhering to the fundamentals he learned from his first instructor, Mr. Jack Grout.
Billy continued, “Having the honor to be on Mr. Nicklaus’ bag provided me with a foundation that I have carried with me throughout my teaching journey. Much of Jack’s success is traced back to how he would play to his strengths while minimizing errors. My time with Mr. Nicklaus translated into success developing junior players who won at the highest levels of amateur and professional golf. My students’ results speak for themselves.”
Much of Billy’s career has been associated with Nicklaus Academies. Martin replaced Mike Malaska, past PGA National Teacher of the Year, as the Director of Instruction at the Nicklaus Academy in Tokyo. Martin’s ability to successfully work with students of all abilities led him to other prestigious positions at Nicklaus facilities in Seoul, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
