Exciting NCAA college football will return to the Emerald Isle next year on Aug. 29 in a highly anticipated matchup between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen. Notre Dame and Navy previously travelled to Ireland in 1996 and 2012
Announced by Ireland’s Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, the upcoming game is part of a five-game “American Football Series” that will bring an estimated $250 million dollars to the country. Aviva Stadium is home to the Irish Rugby Football Union and Republic of Ireland’s national football team.
This will mark the third meeting between Notre Dame and U.S. Naval Academy in Ireland. They will compete for the Keough-Naughton Trophy, named for Donald Koeugh, the first inductee into the Irish American Hall of Fame, and Martin Naughton, who trailblazed Irish studies programs in the U.S.
“Two storied U.S. college football programs going head-to-head will make for an incredibly exciting and fun week in Dublin,” says Marty Carr, executive chairman of Carr Golf.” We are thrilled to showcase the unbelievable golf, accommodations and hospitality here in Ireland as we celebrate the Fighting Irish returning to their roots to take on the U.S. Naval Academy.”
