Imperial expands GCSAA relationship with The First Green
BOURBON, MO – Imperial Headwear, the #1 golf headwear brand as reported by the Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM) in their Member Survey the last four consecutive years, announced they will partner with The First Green, a philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).
As “Preferred Headwear of the GCSAA,” Imperial extends special discounts to superintendents across the country and has a limited edition “Superintendent Collection” of GCSAA chapters and superintendent-themed products available online at ImperialSports.com. A portion of the proceeds from this online collection are donated back to the GCSAA’s philanthropic organization, the Environmental Institute for Golf (EIFG) and The First Green. First Green is an innovative environmental and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education outreach program using golf courses as environmental learning labs. First Green curriculum benefits young students by helping them apply their classroom knowledge in an outdoor setting. By understanding how STEM concepts connect, students find new inspiration in their school work and in the possibility of a career in golf or a STEM-related field.
Golf Course Superintendents and/or local golf course representatives host students on field trips where they test water quality, collect soil samples, identify plants, design plantings, assist in stream bed restoration and are involved in the ecology and environmental aspects of the golf course.
“The First Green program is an outstanding opportunity to highlight all of the positive attributes of a golf course,” said Connor Healy, superintendent of The First Green, GCSAA said. “It is a direct connection for the students to see what they are learning in their STEM curriculums at school is applied daily in our profession. It was one of the most enjoyable days I have had on a golf course. Getting the opportunity to see a majority of the 100 students’ first experience on a golf course made it impossible not to have a smile on your face. I am excited by the future with the First Green Program and the potential to really improve upon it each time we host the event.
The partnership we have formed between Conway Farms Golf Club, Ebinger Elementary School, and the GCSAA has been dynamic and we all look forward to expanding those relationships and continuing to grow and develop The First Green Program in the coming years. We are proud to add another partner into the fold with Imperial Sports that will further help support the program.”
“GCSAA members play such a vital role in the game and we are honored to extend our involvement to The First Green,” said David Shaffer, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Imperial Headwear. “Golf course superintendents are at the center of the sustainability movement and The First Green passes necessary skills to the next generation, while preparing them for a future in STEM.”
