Fox Hollow Golf Club Embraces Environmental Sustainability with New Beehives
New Jersey club partners with Raritan Valley Beekeepers Association
(BRANCHBURG, N.J.) – Fox Hollow Golf Club – the top-rated Northeast golf course located just a short drive from New York City – has introduced two onsite beehives that will create a new home for the Raritan Valley Beekeepers Association (RVBA).
In partnership with Fox Hollow Golf Club, the Raritan Valley Beekeepers Association will welcome 80,000 new members this fall to its course. While golf courses may appear as unlikely sanctuaries for honey bees, these animals act as a barometer of a course’s environmental health, with sustainable golf environments fostering natural habitats for thousands of animals.
According to the American Beekeeping Foundation, one-third of all food consumed by Americans is indirectly derived from honeybee pollination. Fortunately, Fox Hollow will not need to alter daily course maintenance for the RVBA’s new home. In fact, since the arrival of the beehives, the club has reduced water and chemical use through Integrated Pest Management. Under the guidance of Superintendent Ken Anson, the course is in better shape and more environmentally friendly than ever before.
“As a fellow beekeeper, Fox Hollow offers a unique home for our black and yellow friends,” says Matthew Galvin, president and managing partner of Morningstar Golf and Hospitality. “The RVBA has enjoyed the new haven for meetings and training sessions in an area away from golfers. We look forward to highlighting how golf courses can be ‘bee friendly’ with prudent and careful management of the hives.”
Opened in 1967, Fox Hollow Golf Club is a Hal Purdy design measuring 6,371 yards and sprawling across undulating terrain and forest, offering scenic vistas throughout the par-70 layout. Weather permitting, the season never ends at Fox Hollow with the practice facility open year around.
“Billy Casper Golf is proud to partner with the RVBA at Fox Hollow on this exciting new endeavor,” says Greg Sinder, regional director of marketing for Billy Casper Golf. “The welcoming nature of our golf community will only serve as an asset for years to come.”
In 2019, Billy Casper Golf (BCG) celebrates its 30th anniversary in building and refining the strongest operating platform in golf. Fox Hollow Golf Club is one of 11 daily-fee courses managed by BCG in New Jersey.
