Donations will go benefit local fire department that battled blaze

LINCOLN, Neb.- Dormie Network, a national network of private destination golf clubs, is announcing a new element to its ongoing efforts to raise money for the Maxwell Volunteer Fire Department. These funds will expand the department’s current capabilities after the February 26 wildfire that impacted GrayBull Club, and interested persons can donate to the effort here.

Every $100 donation enters donors into a drawing for a chance to win a two-day, one-night “stay and play” package at select Dormie Network clubs including ArborLinks, Ballyhack, Briggs Ranch, Hidden Creek, Victoria National, and GrayBull. Each $100 donation increment will be awarded with another entry into the drawing. The package includes golf and lodging for four, and booking is subject to availability.

GrayBull Club has raised more than $36,000 since the fundraiser began on February 29, with a final goal of $100,000.Donations will be matched by Dormie Network, ultimately contributing $200,000 to ensure the maximum impact for the fire department.

Dubbed the “Betty’s Way Fire,” the blaze affected more than 71,000 acres of land in Lincoln County, causing more than $600,000 in property damage. A lawnmower caused the fire to start, and 40 mph wind gusts enabled it to spread quickly. More than 60 firefighters battled the blaze, including members of the Maxwell Volunteer Fire Department.

The Maxwell Volunteer Fire Department, alongside other local, state and federal officials, fought the flames for days to keep the public safe and limit damages. GrayBull Club Director of Agronomy Michael Sheely, volunteer firefighter and Sampson Construction team member Ben Boehm, and other members of the GrayBull Club team, battled the blaze and saved the club, which suffered minimal damages to the course and clubhouse.
