Torrey Pines and The City of San Diego Golf Division Launch New Mobile App with Gallus Golf
San Diego, CA– The San Diego City Golf App has been released and is ready to be in the hands of golfers worldwide. Included are the world-renowned championship courses, Torrey Pines South and Torrey Pines North. Equally stunning San Diego courses Balboa Park (27 holes plus FootGolf) and Mission Bay Golf Course and Practice Center can also be found in the app. Torrey Pines South and North courses play host annually to the Farmers Insurance Open in January, and in 2021 the South Course will again be host to the US Open, repeating its position from 2008 when Tiger Woods won his 14th Major Championship on a broken leg beating Rocco Mediate in an 18 hole Monday playoff.
This launch comes right on time for the 2019 summer season so San Diego residents and tourist golfers alike can now easily access tee times, course news, and specials at all three of these facilities. The City of San Diego chose Gallus Golf as their mobile app provider because of a proven track record as an innovator in the golf industry.
Michael Jones, Golf Course Manager for the City of San Diego, elaborates on some of the driving factors that led to their decision to work with Gallus. “Gallus is an expert in golf, and their experience in this area was very attractive to us when deciding to partner with them. I’ve seen the effort and attention to detail they put forth building our app and how they differentiate themselves as a niche company.”
As a group of municipal courses, this new mobile app for the City of San Diego golf courses will create one central location for golfers to connect, and the ease of this connection will create unprecedented levels of access for the City’s golf customers. At launch time, current features of the app include:
- Tee Time booking at all courses for residents and non-residents
- Resident Card renewal and purchase in the app (a NEW feature in 2019)
- Tournament/Outing Requests
- Driving Range GPS for all facilities
- On Course GPS for all courses
- In-round scoring and post round score posting to GHIN
- The PLAY Golf Program (Participation, Learning, and Appreciation of Youth) a city growth of the game initiative
- Push Notifications and Geofence Notifications for up to the minute alerts of all pertinent information related to golfer experience at the facilities
- Much more as the app continues to evolve under City management
The City plans to utilize the app messaging capabilities in particular this season to easily connect with their golfers to enhance the appeal of Balboa Park & Mission Bay. Jones says, “At Torrey Pines, we don’t have problems filling the tee sheet but when we have attrition, we now have the ability to contact individuals quickly and not lose revenue when we would normally otherwise. Those factors are critical for us as a multi-course operator and from a marketing perspective, we are always thinking about how we can leverage the interest in Torrey to funnel to our other courses. We feel this app is a microcosm of that because we know we will generate downloads using the Torrey brand, but anyone with the app will get the full experience of all three of our facilities, not just Torrey Pines.”
Jones continued, “In particular for resident golfers, using the app will help clear up any booking confusion that may have existed prior. Critical course information will be immediately accessible in the app, whereas before it was not as easy to find online giving access to Torrey Pines and the other facilities, making plans to golf extremely easy to make for golfers, and only a couple taps away.”
The app is currently available in the app stores by simply searching “San Diego City Golf”.
