ACCOMPLISHED COACH, CLUB FITTER MIKE SCHY JOINS GOLF CHANNEL ACADEMY NETWORK OF INSTRUCTORS
Mike Schy, long-time coach to five-time PGA TOUR winner and former U.S. Amateur champion Bryson DeChambeau, was recently named a lead coach for GOLF Channel Academy.
Schy joins a group of the most distinguished and influential coaches and facilities in the game today, all operating with the active support of GOLF Channel, the game’s leading global multimedia and golf entertainment source. With 88 locations canvassing 30 states, Canada and one European country, GOLF Channel Academy is among the most expansive golf instruction networks in the world today.
“I am excited to join a network of the best instructors in the game and be associated with the GOLF Channel brand,” said Schy, owner of the Mike Schy Golf Performance Institute at Dragonfly Golf Club in the Fresno suburb of Madera, Calif. “Our facility is unlike any other in the world. We have technology and training aids that accommodate all learning styles and the environment I’ve created is one that promotes independence when it comes to the player’s game and individual journey. I want our students to own their motion and what they do.”
A PGA Professional with more than 30 years of teaching experience, Schy specializes in the coaching and development of collegiate and junior golfers, and has taught thousands of students from beginners to professionals. In addition to DeChambeau, one of only five players to win both the NCAA Individual Championship and the U.S. Amateur Championship in the same year (2015), his most notable students include PGA TOUR Champions player Bill Glasson, three-time LPGA Tour winner Beatriz Recari and 2018 California Women’s Amateur Champion Ty Akabane.
An accomplished amateur player, Schy was one of the top junior golfers in Northern California, capturing Medalist honors in U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifying in 1978. A year later, he joined Fresno State University’s men’s golf team and helped the Bulldogs to four top-20 national rankings.
A member of the FlightScope Advisory Board and 2006 Northern California PGA Fitter of the Year, Schy is heavily sought after for his club-fitting knowledge and innovative ways of getting the most out of today’s cutting-edge technology. He was a keynote speaker and presenter at the 2012 World Golf Conference in Barcelona, Spain, and was influential in DeChambeau making the switch to larger grips and a single-length set of irons.
