EXCEL Leadership Program names 11 assistant golf course superintendents for second year
Funded by Nufarm, GCSAA program offers training, education specific to assistants
Lawrence, Kan. – Eleven assistant superintendent members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) have been chosen for the second class of the EXCEL Leadership Program, which is funded by Nufarm and administered by GCSAA’s philanthropic organization, the Environmental Institute for Golf.
EXCEL offers leadership training for personal, career and community/industry stewardship exclusively for assistant superintendents. The name EXCEL represents the education, cross training, community, encouragement and leadership development that the program provides.
The program will feature two, two-day training sessions at Nufarm’s headquarters in Chicago and GCSAA headquarters in Lawrence, Kan., each year of the three-year program cycle. In addition to the two-day training events, EXCEL members will also receive five-day trips to the annual Golf Industry Show. The 2019 Golf Industry show takes place Feb. 2-7 in San Diego.
“Assistant superintendents are the future of the profession,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “I congratulate the winners of the EXCEL Leadership Program as it takes its second class to GIS and look forward to meeting them in San Diego. They are taking steps to not only grow their own careers, but serve as an example to the next generation of leaders of our association and the superintendent profession.”
