MONTGOMERY COUNTRY CLUB HOSTS PELLA INVITATIONAL PRO-AM
MID-ATLANTIC PGA PROFESSIONALS COMPETED FOR BIGGEST PURSE OF THE SEASON
Montgomery Country Club played host to the Pella Invitational Pro-Am on August 19, the largest PGA Middle Atlantic club professional field of the year with the region’s richest pro purse. Steve Delmar, a PGA Associate at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Maryland, shot a blistering 8-under par 64 on a 6,700-yard championship layout to claim victory.
The sold-out event featured 35 pro-am teams in two waves playing over the rolling hills of Laytonsville, located about 30 miles west of Baltimore. Montgomery Country Club’s mature trees, rye grass fairways, and large greens, with seven beautiful water features and unique bunkering, contributed to the strategic diversity encountered by the golfers and provided a stunning backdrop for the 3rd Pella Invitational Pro-Am.
Pella Corporation, headquartered in Iowa, is a window and door manufacturer known for its technology and innovation. Pella Mid-Atlantic, one of the largest, independently owned distributors of Pella Corporation, has locations throughout Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and Washington, D.C.
Top-ranked PGA professionals comprised the strongest pro-am field in the last 20 years. There was a three-way tie for second place among Jim Estes, Olney Golf Park; Dirk Schultz, Beaver Creek Country Club; and Greg Pieczynski, Manor Country Club.
According to General Manager Kieron Mooney, also a PGA professional, “Pella approached the club and asked what it would take to stage the best pro-am in this region.” Mooney recounted. “It started with a robust prize purse but was accentuated by the exceptional course conditions achieved by our golf course superintendent Steve Newsome. Additionally, the club’s culinary team put out an unbelievable buffet, and throughout the grounds, there was extensive sponsorship branding, and special touches that really set this event apart from anything else in this region.” Among these add-ons were designated VIP parking for Pella clients and managers, video feed to all clubhouse televisions, real-time electronic scoring and professionally created signage, banners and branding.
In addition to the professional purse, pay-outs were awarded for team scores (gross and net), including golf shop certificates for the amateur golfers.
“Pella Mid-Atlantic was proud to partner with Montgomery Country Club and the Arcis Golf family to host our third annual Pella Invitational Pro Am,” said Tim Allen, General Manager, Pella Mid-Atlantic “Our vision started out small and after only three years, we’ve been able to deliver one of the most anticipated pro-am events in the area. If this year’s waiting list is any indication, the invitational will continue to grow in the future.” Allen also noted that the Pella commercial brand message was well communicated by these PGA professionals within their respected clubs and organizations.
According to George Ballman, CEO, Pella Mid-Atlantic, Inc., “This type of event is a great example of how the business of golf can be advantageous on many levels. This event brought together amazing golf professionals with leaders in the commercial construction space.”
