CARLSBAD, Calif. (July 2, 2018) – Using Nippon Shaft’s N.S. PRO 950GH steel shafts in her irons and the N.S.PRO MODUS” Wedge 105 shafts in her wedges, the 24-year-old South Korean won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Sunday at Kemper Lakes Golf Club outside Chicago.
Her victory came on the second hole of a three-way sudden death playoff (No. 16), where she made a birdie 3. In regulation, she shot 10-under par 66-72-71-69-278 to tie with the two other players.
It was the fourth LPGA Tour victory and the second major championship for the 2017 LPGA Rookie of the Year and Co-Player of the Year, who won the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open. She also won an LPGA event in Texas in May.
A key shot in her final round came when she wedged her ball high into the air from the edge of a pond in front of the 16th green with the ball coming to rest a foot from the hole. What could have been disaster ended with a round-saving kick-in par.
The victory was 137th global Tour win for a MODUS” model and the 14th this year alone. Meanwhile, the 950GH shafts have more than 100 victories on pro tours around the world since Nippon Shaft brought the sub-100-gram steel shaft to market some 20 years ago.
