PATRIOT GOLF DAY AT GRAND BEAR GOLF CLUB RAISES $10,000 FOR FOLDS OF HONOR FOUNDATION
Saucier, Miss. – Last month’s Patriot Golf Day at Grand Bear Golf Club in Saucier, Miss. raised more than $10,000 for the Folds of Honor Foundation and its mission to provide post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled in the line of duty. Played on Tuesday, November 19, Grand Bear’s Patriot Golf Day included golfers from across Mississippi playing in a fun, four person scramble. In addition, 20 corporate sponsors from the greater Biloxi and Gulfport areas helped support the Patriot Golf Day tournament.
The $10,000 donation equals two Folds of Honor educational scholarships that will be awarded to a spouse and/or child of a wounded or fallen service member. In 2019, the Folds of Honor Foundation awarded 100 scholarships.
“Our final numbers are in from the golf tournament, silent auction and donations and we’re thrilled to have raised $10,000 for Folds of Honor,” said Brad Kale, PGA, general manager, Grand Bear Golf Club. “We genuinely appreciate the support of local golfers and businesses in making this tournament a success. We look forward to growing it bigger and better in years to come.”
In total, more than 70 golfers participated in Grand Bear Golf Club’s Patriot Golf Day tournament. For more information on Grand Bear Golf Club, visit https://grandbeargolf.com or call (228) 265-9363.
ABOUT PATRIOT GOLF DAY:
Major Dan Rooney, a former F-16 fighter pilot, PGA Professional and USGA member, came up with the concept of Patriot Golf Day and founded the Folds of Honor Foundation in 2007, following his second of three tours of duty in Iraq. After returning from his second tour, Major Rooney witnessed a profound display of a family’s grief as they welcomed home the remains of Corporal Brock Bucklin. Inspired by this tragic homecoming of a fallen American solider, Rooney started the Folds of Honor Foundation to provide support to military families in the aftermath of their tragedies. ABOUT GRAND BEAR GOLF CLUB:
A Jack Nicklaus Signature Design, Grand Bear Golf Club opened in 1999 to widespread fanfare and near universal acclaim. Built six miles into the DeSoto National Forrest, the course offers a seemingly private golf experience as no two holes parallel another, and homes, roads, or other distractions are absent while on property. In its place, the golfer is alone to enjoy the pristine natural environment, where the manicured course conditions meet the towering pines and surrounding cypress wetlands. Grand Bear is consistently rated as one of the top daily-fee golf clubs in Mississippi by GOLF Magazine, Golf Digest and Golfweek.
