Northern California PGA Foundation Teams-Up With Coe and Company To Host First-Annual “PGA Caddies for HOPE Par 3 Contest” in Conjunction with PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere)
Fundraising Event to be held on April 5 at Swenson Park Executive Golf Course with Proceeds Going to Support PGA HOPE Golf Programming for Military Veterans
VACAVILLE, Calif., March 10, 2020 — The Northern California PGA Foundation announced today an alliance with Lodi-based Coe and Company Construction Services to serve as sponsor of the first-annual “PGA Caddies for HOPE Par 3 Contest.” A fundraising initiative on behalf PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), the Foundation’s military pillar and the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America, the event will take place on April 5, 2020 at Swenson Park Executive Golf Course in Stockton, Calif.
A replica of the famous Par 3 contest that takes place each year during golf’s first Major in Augusta, GA, the “PGA Caddies for HOPE Par 3 Contest” is a fun, charitable event that is created to support local Veterans in Northern California who participate in PGA HOPE. In collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, PGA HOPE introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The PGA HOPE golf sessions, which are offered at NO cost to Veterans by Northern California PGA Professionals, offer an opportunity to learn and play the game of golf, which is a proven activity that has helped thousands of Veterans assimilate back into their community through the social interaction the game provides.
As part of the contest, which is open to men and women golfers of any age and skill level, participants will choose a family member to serve as their caddy while competing and wearing white coveralls with the player’s name on the back of the caddie uniform. Depending on the player’s level of competitiveness, the caddie may finish out a put or hit a ball at the player’s discretion. In addition, a 9-hole golf outing will be held on April 5 as a compliment to the Par 3 contest. Interested golfers can register for the “PGA Caddies for HOPE Par 3 Contest” or golf outing at bit.ly/pgacaddiesforhope.
The “PGA Caddies for HOPE Par 3 Contest” is part of entire family fun day on April 5 Swenson Park Executive Golf Course, and will include golf, live music, barbecue, prizes and the great outdoors on a beautiful golf course covered with oak trees and shade. It offers an opportunity for participating amateur golfers in the contest to compete for a variety of prizes, including a new car with a hole-in-one.
“This is the most enjoyable golf event I can think of, and worthy of support for our local Veterans and my financial support as a premier sponsor,” said Lyle Coe, President, Coe and Company Construction Services. “PGA HOPE begins official golf classes, especially designed for helping Veterans in the community and at local VA hospitals, begin locally on April 30, 2020 at Swenson Park Golf Course, so this is a fun, special event to help kick-off the program.”
Adds Coe, “We actually have a local golfer, and former professional player, Bob Lunn, who won the Masters Par 3 contest in Augusta, Georgia it in 1969. Bob’s success in the event over 50 years ago was part of the inspiration for creating our own Par 3 contest to support PGA HOPE.”
“We are very excited to extend our 2020 PGA HOPE programming to Swenson Park Golf Course in Stockton, and use this exciting contest to kick-off the season and help promote the program, and its importance to Veterans,” said Nancy Maul, Executive Director, Northern California PGA Foundation. “The NCPGA Foundation operates one of the largest PGA HOPE programs in the country at ten locations through the region and we have proudly served more than 377,000 Veterans since 2015.”
Adds Maul, “We are very grateful to our dedicated PGA HOPE-certified PGA Professionals, sponsors, partners, players and other supporters who come together to make our program successful each year. The fundraising we drive through the events like this Coe and Company-sponsored Par 3 contest provides a tremendous opportunity for us to continue serving Veterans and introduce the vast therapeutic benefits the game of golf provides.”
