STUDIO CITY AND ONTARIO, Calif. — Legendary college coach, Carrie Forsyth and renowned broadcaster, Gary McCord, will headline a class of five luminaries that will be inducted into the SoCal Golf Hall of Fame on Mar. 18 at Industry Hills GC at Pacific Palms Resort. The event will be hosted by golf course architect, historian and author, Geoff Shackelford.
In addition to Forsyth and McCord, this year’s inductees include a highly decorated amateur, a coach who dedicated his life to golf and a legacy community leader who transformed his city’s sporting landscape.
The SoCal Golf Hall of Fame is honored to welcome the Class of 2025:
Carrie Forsyth; legendary college coach and two-time national champion at UCLA. Now retired, Forsyth concluded a 24-year run at the helm of the Bruins’ women’s golf team. Forsyth is a Golfweek National Coach of the Year and a record-setting six-time PAC 10/12 Coach of the Year. She has coached numerous notable players including Lilia Vu, Melissa “Mo” Martin and Patty Tavatanakit, all of whom have won major championships on the LPGA Tour. In 2023, Forsyth was inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame, 12 years after her induction into the WGCA Hall of Fame.
Gary McCord; college champion, professional tour veteran and beloved media personality. McCord played in over 400 events on the PGA Tour before joining CBS as a golf broadcaster, enjoying a second career that lasted over 30 years. McCord was a commentator in the best-selling Tiger Woods PGA Tour video game series by EA Sports and appeared as himself in the 1996 film, Tin Cup. He won twice on the PGA Senior Tour and also authored two books about golf, A Range Ball in a Box of Titleists and Golf for Dummies.
Also to be recognized at this event are three posthumous inductees:
Steve Horrell; longtime golf course operator and serial sports community and committee leader. Despite not taking up golf until after graduation, Horrell followed his dad into the family business at Singing Hills Golf Resort where he helped win the hosting privileges for the PGA Tour’s 1956 San Diego Open. He was also a co-founder of the Century Club and was the first-ever San Diegan to serve on the USGA’s Executive Committee. Horrell was a key leader in bringing the 2008 U.S. Open to Torrey Pines and was a mainstay on nearly every sports board and committee in San Diego including Super Bowls, Holiday Bowls, San Diego Junior Golf and the Friends of Torrey Pines.
Stan Wood; a lifelong stalwart of golf and longtime head coach at his alma mater. Wood attended USC where he played on the golf team and served as the sports editor for the Daily Trojan. One year into his post-college life, he returned to USC and took the job as the head men’s golf coach, a position he would hold for 25 years. During Wood’s tenure, he was named Coach of the Year 12 different times and was recognized as one of the four “Founding Fathers” of modern collegiate golf.
Foster “Bud” Bradley; a decorated amateur who won over four decades. Bradley first gained national attention by winning the 1954 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. For over 40 years of his golfing life – a time that spanned from high school to his early 60’s – Bradley was considered a top amateur player. As a three-time second-team All-American at USC, he helped the Trojans to a then program-best third-place finish at the 1958 NCAA Championships. Bradley would go on to collect a bevy of amateur titles including 13 Wilshire Country Club Championships, 1991 and 1992 SCGA Senior Amateur Championship and the 2000 Senior Canadian Amateur Championship. He was inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
