Brentwood, Tenn., – Players wearing Softspikes® dominated this past weekend on golf’s major global tours, with the winners of the World Wide Technology Championship, Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and LOTTE Championship all putting their trust in replaceable traction to get over the winning line.
On the PGA Tour, at the World Wide Technology Championship, the winner, wearing Tour Flex Pro spikes in his FootJoy Traditions golf shoes, produced 11 birdies during Sunday’s final round 63 to secure his second Tour title. The American becomes the 36th PGA Tour winner to do so wearing spikes in the past 39 events. Additionally, 29 of the top 36 finishers at the World Wide Championship chose to play in replaceable spikes over a spikeless alternative.
On the DP World Tour, at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the winner claimed a first Rolex Series title wearing Pulsar spikes in his FootJoy Premiere Series golf shoes. The 39-year-old Englishman took charge of the tournament on Friday with a near-flawless round of 61 and never looked back. A birdie, birdie finish on Sunday wrapped up a 2-shot victory, the winner’s check for $1,530,000 and moves him up to 5th position in the Race to Dubai Rankings. On the LPGA Tour, it was also another win for Pulsar at the LOTTE Championship.
“Three victories on the same weekend is great validation for the benefits of wearing spikes in competition and we congratulate those players on their respective victories,” commented Joe Henderson, President, Softspikes.
Tour players change grips and traction regularly based on course conditions, but amateur golfers rarely think about the impact wearing spikes has on consistency and distance. To achieve optimal performance benefits, golfers should be switching up their spikes every 15 rounds.
