Brentwood, Tenn., – For the second week in a row the No.1 spike on tour, Tour Flex Pro, shone atop the leaderboard, with both participants in Monday morning’s 3-hole playoff at The Players Championship putting Softspike’s most technologically-advanced spike in play.
Following the suspension of play on Sunday evening, after finishing tied for the lead after 4 rounds at TPC Sawgrass, the World No.3, wearing a combination of Tour Flex Pro and Silver Tornado spikes in his Nike golf shoes, came out fully intent on claiming a second Players Championship title. A score of even par over the 3-hole stretch was enough to secure a second Players Championship trophy.
The win at The Players Championship means it’s now 11 victories in the past 12 PGA Tour events for players wearing Softspikes. In total, 83% of the field at the unofficial 5th Major put spikes in play, with 43% of those opting for Tour Flex Pro. At the conclusion of regulation play on Sunday evening, 45 of the top 49 finishers chose replaceable spikes over a spikeless alternative.
The No.1 spike on Tour has now been put into play by five of the past seven champions on the PGA Tour.
“To have the World No.3 make the switch to Tour Flex Pro at the start of the year and then go on to win for the first time at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and now a second Players Championship title is the ultimate validation for the performance benefits of our product,” commented Joe Henderson, President, Softspikes.
Tour players change grips and traction regularly based on course conditions, but amateur golfers rarely think about the impact wearing spikes has on consistency and distance. To achieve optimal performance benefits, golfers should be switching up their spikes every 15 rounds.
