Atlanta, Georgia – The Standard Club in Johns Creek, Georgia recently welcomed Scott Mahr as the private club’s new General Manager. Mahr will oversee all elements of The Standard Club, including the facility’s 18-hole golf course, multiple club amenities and food and beverage facilities, member programs, as well as associate training and development.
Mahr is a highly experienced and passionate hospitality industry veteran having led the operations at a number of private clubs and resorts. He most recently served as the general manager at Brookstone Golf & Country Club in Acworth, Georgia. Prior to Brookstone, Mahr served as president of a privately owned chemical manufacturing and distribution company servicing the hospitality industry. Throughout his 25-plus year career, he has led operations at clubs and resorts across Georgia, including facilities in Acworth, Roswell, Adairsville, and Alpharetta. Mahr has an exceptional track record with the development and building of teams, employee engagement, financial performance, sales, revenue strategies, F&B enhancements and change management.
“Scott’s brand of leadership and his focus on quality assurance, hospitality and the member experience made him the perfect person to lead the team at The Standard Club,” said Michael Ryan, vice president operations, Troon.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Penn., Mahr is a Class A Member of the PGA of America and holds a marketing degree from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan.
“The Standard Club is excited to have Scott join our Club and lead us forward as we continue to develop into one of the top private clubs in Atlanta,” said The Standard Club’s Board President Mark Goodman. “With his engaging personality and vast experience in the hospitality industry, I know our members and staff will embrace and support Scott in his vision for the club as he takes us to the next level.”
The Standard Club is managed by Troon Privé, the private club operations division of Troon. The club was founded in 1867 with an historic social club heritage in downtown Atlanta. The club was relocated in 1987 to its current north-Atlanta address in Johns Creek. The full service country club is located on 300-plus acres of Audubon-designated natural habitat. The club’s 18-hole golf course was originally designed by Arthur Hills and opened for member play in 1987. Golf course architect Mike Riley redesigned the course in 2005 and it is now regarded as one of the top golf courses in Georgia. In addition to golf and dining, member amenities include four indoor air-conditioned tennis courts, eight outdoor clay courts, four outdoor hard courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center, as well as racquetball and basketball courts. The club’s swimming pool area features a pool, waterslide and kids water mushroom. The Standard Club’s 125,000 square-foot clubhouse includes both formal and casual dining rooms, a private dining room, a banquet ballroom and patio dining overlooking the golf course.
