Tour Edge Exotics in play by 2nd, 4th, 8th place finishers at 80th Senior PGA Championship
Scott McCarron’s runner-up finish is 5th Top 5 finish in the last 7 Majors Playing Exotics
Three professionals playing Tour Edge golf clubs finished in the Top 10 of the 80th Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York Sunday.
The 156-man field at the Senior PGA Championship included 20 Major Champions, seven Ryder Cup Captains and six World Golf Hall-of-Famers.
The infamously difficult Oak Hill Country Club has been the host to three US Opens, two PGA Championships, the 1995 Ryder Cup and now two Senior PGA Championships.
Tour Edge Exotics staff player Scott McCarron finished 2nd at the Major championship, while a two-time U.S. Open champion finished 4th playing a CBX 119 hybrid and Tour Edge staffer Duffy Waldorf finished 8th playing two Exotics clubs.
McCarron shot rounds of 72-69-67-70 for a total of 2-under par to earn the runner-up finish after just missing a 25-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole that would have forced a playoff.
McCarron is the current No. 1 ranked player in the PGA Tour Champions with $1,346,628 earned in tournament winnings this year. He leads the No. 2 ranked player by $483,460.
The 2nd place finish at the all-important Major represents the 7th Top 5 finish in the last 10 events for McCarron, including two wins, two runner-ups and 3rd place finish.
He has earned five Top 5 finishes in the last seven Major events since switching to Exotics last season.
McCarron’s 19-degree Exotics CBX hybrid has a Project X Even Flow Black shaft, the same shaft that is available to consumers as a stock offering in the CBX 119 line. A two-time U.S. Open champion finished 4th at even par at the event. The player also had a 19-degree CBX 119 hybrid with an Even Flow Black shaft in play.
Tour Edge Exotics staff player Waldorf finished tied for 8th this week playing an Exotics CBX 13-degree 3-wood and a 17-degree CBX hybrid with a Fujikura Atmos Blue shaft.
“This was wonderful exposure for Tour Edge this weekend on NBC with our logos showing up all over the coverage,” said Tour Edge President David Glod. “Scott McCarron played his heart out and has proven he is the new player to beat week in and week out on the Champions. It was good to see our clubs helping so many players this week on one of the toughest courses in the world. A great job all around by the PGA of America with this event.”
Seventeen total Exotics clubs were in play this week (10 hybrids, four fairway woods and three iron-woods.) Many of the players were looking for higher-lofted hybrids this week for the long rough at Oak Hill. Both Exotics CBX 119 and Exotics EXS hybrids were put into play ranging from 17 degrees to 25 degrees.
Exotics clubs have now been a part of nine victories and 12 runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour Champions since collecting the first win at the 2018 Chubb Classic.
This equates to Exotics clubs finishing 1st or 2nd in 21 of the last 36 PGA TOUR Champions events (58%).
After 11 events on the 2019 PGA Tour Champions season, Exotics metalwoods have been in play for three victories, 10 Top 5 finishes, 16 Top 10 finishes and 37 Top 25 finishes.
Tour Edge is keeping count of these tour statistics on a tour scoreboard located on www.touredge.com.
