TREVOR LAMPSON WINS “THE SIZZLER AMATEUR”
AT TROON NORTH
Gilbert Resident Led Wire-to-Wire in Dominating Performance
Scottsdale, Ariz. (June 19, 2019) – Trevor Lampson of Gilbert, Ariz., won the 2019 Sizzler Amateur at Troon North Golf Club (Monument) shooting rounds of 67-65-69 to finish at 15-under par, winning by six shots over Aaron Ramos of Mesa, Ariz. Lampson was two-over par through five holes to begin his final round, but played the final 13 holes at 5-under par. Lampson will begin his senior season at Grand Canyon University this fall.
“I’m just really happy I got the win in a Troon Saguaro Amateur Series event,” said Lampson. “I’ve played in several of them and it is nice to finally get a win in one of them. I drove the ball really well and didn’t put myself in any positions to make any high numbers. You can make some high numbers on this golf course and I did a really good job of keeping my tee shots in the fairway. Definitely gives me more confidence in the rest of my tournaments this summer and hopefully keeps the momentum going into my last season at GCU.”
Mark and Maverick Pavletich, of Bakersfield, Calif., participated in this week’s Sizzler Amateur. Mark is Maverick’s dad and they were the featured father/son duo. The event was extra special as the practice round was held on Father’s Day. The elder Pavletich shot 75-75-72 (T33) with son, Maverick, besting dad at 69-71-73 (T6).
Lampson’s win earned him 100 points in the race for 2019 Troon Saguaro Amateur Series Player of the Year. The next event will be held November 24-27 at Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson. The concept of the Saguaro Amateur and its evolution into a series is the brainchild of University of Colorado Head Men’s Golf Coach Roy Edwards, University of Wyoming Director of Golf Programs Joe Jensen, and Ak-Chin Southern Dunes General Manager Brady Wilson. Troon is the series’ title sponsor. Full information on the Series can be found at www.saguaroamateur.com.
