California’s Vernon Elected USGA President For Second Term

James F. Vernon of Pasadena, Calif., is elected to serve a second one-year term as president of the U.S. Golf Association. The election of officers and the full 15-member USGA Executive Committee took place Feb. 7 at the USGA’s annual meeting in Newport Beach, Calif.

Five Elected to Iowa Golf Hall of Fame

The Iowa Golf Association announces the election of five new members to the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame. The Class of 2009 of Rodney Bliss Jr., Dick Bruns, John Liechty, Steve Spray and Betty Thye will be inducted on May 1.

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America will begin conducting a national survey of golf facilities, focusing on energy use and environmental practices. The survey is part of a multi-year project that will document environmental stewardship practices and establish an environmental profile of golf courses. Also, all 27 members of the GCSAA Partner Recognition Program have signed on for a second year, including platinum level partners The Toro Co. and John Deere Golf. … Greg Norman renews his support of the Environmental Institute for Golf, the philanthropic organization of the GCSAA.
