Carr Golf Announces Winners of Prestigious Donald Ross Pro-Am
Final Two Rounds Played on Scotland’s Iconic Royal Dornoch Golf Club
Carr Golf – Golf Digest’s Editors’ Choice Award Winner for “Best Tour Operator” four years in a row – announces the winners of its second Donald Ross Pro-Am held Sept. 24 – 28 in the Scottish Highlands.
Eleven pro-am teams comprised of one PGA Professional and three amateur players competed in two tournament rounds on celebrated Royal Dornoch Golf Club and one round on Castle Stuart Golf Links. Nearby Brora Golf Club hosted a practice round for the participants. Royal Dornoch, ranked No. 2 in Golf Digest’s “World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses,” is the classic links layout on which Donald Ross learned the game as a boy.
Round One at Castle Stuart Golf Links
Each tournament round was scored using the “Better Ball Stableford” format. Team Guise, consisting of PGA Professional Milo Lines (Superstition Mountain Golf Club), Frank Guise (Plumbrook Country Club), Tom Guise (Gold Mountain Golf Club) and Dan Barczak (Sand Creek Country Club) captured the winning team title with a three-round total of 245. Don Meadows of Quail Valley Golf Club won the PGA Professional Division and the $5,000 cash prize sponsored by Donald Ross Sportswear with an opening round 71 at Castle Stuart, followed by rounds of 73 and 66 at Royal Dornoch.
The one-of-a-kind pilgrimage to Dornoch included four nights’ luxury accommodations, welcome reception and dinner, daily meals, Balblair single malt Scotch whisky tour and tasting, premium gift bags from Donald Ross Sportswear, ground transportation, and concierge service both pre-trip and during the event.

Other noteworthy highlights included a Q&A session with golf course architecture writer Bradley Klein, author of “Discovering Donald Ross,” as well as a gala dinner and nightly entertainment at the Royal Golf Hotel. Event photos can be found here.
“Carr Golf was thrilled to once again host this commemorative competition in Dornoch and the glorious Scottish Highlands,” says Marty Carr, executive chairman of Carr Golf. “In partnership Donald Ross Sportswear, this prestigious event created four days of comradery and fellowship while celebrating the life and genius of Donald Ross.”
Final Round at Royal Dornoch Golf Club
Born in the town of Dornoch in 1872, Ross immigrated to America in 1899 and later became known as the “Father of U.S. Golf Course Architecture.” His world-class designs include Aronimink Golf Club, East Lake Golf Club, Pinehurst No. 2, Seminole Golf Club and many more. Over 100 U.S. national championships have been played on his courses.
Ross’ passion for golf developed largely from playing Royal Dornoch. Praised as one of the finest links-style layouts, its splendid routing and use of raised putting surfaces was a major influence on his roughly 400 design projects. He was a founding member and first president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and admitted to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1977.
