"We are extremely fortunate to have the right formula for a great event", explained Alex Madeiros, Bermuda Goodwill tournament director. "When you have so many great teams returning each year combined with the island of Bermuda and the continued support and dedication of so many sponsors and volunteers you are bound to have a great event."
The event, presented by the Bermuda Department of Tourism, was started in 1953 to promote the island of Bermuda and bestow goodwill upon all who participated. Additional sponsors included St. Georges Club, Club Car, Calloway Golf, M.C. Gomez Exporters, Gosling’s Limited, Corporate Values, Lobster Pot, ACE Limited, Belco, Butterfield & Vallis, Pink Beach and Dolphin Quest. The tournament is held during the typically slow part of the tourism season and contributes over 1 million dollars annually to the economy. 2005 also marks the quincentennial anniversary of the discovery of the island of Bermuda by Spanish explorer Juan de Bermudez.
