California Golf Hall Of Fame To Induct Boyns, Murphy

Casey Boyns and Bob Murphy are the newest members of the California Golf Hall of Fame. They will be inducted at the 50th annual California Golf Writers Association awards banquet on Feb. 10 at The Inn at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, Calif.

Sixty-seven percent of everyday athletes who chew gum said they chew to relieve stress for a sporting event and 59 percent of everyday athletes who chew gum admit that they did so when they needed to focus on their event. Sixty-nine percent of golfers said that chewing gum can improve focus and concentration. … The Honolulu Star-Bulletin reports that Vijay Singh will have knee surgery following this week’s Mercedes-Benz Championship and will miss up to five weeks of the PGA Tour season. … The Carolinas PGA Section announces the seven sites throughout North and South Carolina for the 2009 Play Golf America Day season. Pellucid reports that Golf Playable Hours in December were down 6 percent compared to the same period last year. The unfavorable weather month dragged the December Year-to-Date results down yet again to minus .1 percent compared to the same period in 2007.

Callaway Golf Announces Acquisition Of uPlay

Callaway Golf Co. acquires uPlay, a Carlsbad, California-based developer and marketer of consumer electronics devices. The transaction was completed on Dec. 31, and terms of the deal are not being disclosed.
