California's James Vernon Elected 2008 USGA President

James F. Vernon of Pasadena, Calif., has been elected to serve a one-year term as president of the U.S. Golf Association. The election of officers and the full 15-member USGA Executive Committee took place Saturday at the USGA’s annual meeting in Houston, Texas.

ShotWatch™ in Use by Dr. David Wright, Top-100 Instructor

ShotWatch, a training and practice device for golfers dedicated to swing control and consistency, is now in use by Dr. David Wright in his instructional programs. Wright, a clinical psychologist, is a top-100 Golf Digest instructor and teaching professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Clinic and Country Club in Mission Viejo, Calif.

This week’s guests on "Where to Play Golf" from the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am include comedian Tom Dreesen, Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans and PGA Tour rules official Tony Wallin.

Hamilton County Park District Adds SoloRiders to Fleet

The Hamilton County Park District in Cincinnati, Ohio, recently adds two SoloRider golf cars to its fleet to help golfers with limited mobility get back in the game. The new vehicles join the five SoloRiders already in use and available at six public courses in the Cincinnati area.

Club Car Extends Agreement with NGCOA Canada

Club Car extends a multi-year agreement with the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada. Under terms of the agreement, Club Car is granted category and product exclusivity to include sponsorship opportunities, fleet golf cars, turf utility, transportation and food-and-beverage vehicles. Club Car also continues as a presenting sponsor of the Golf Business Canada Conference and Trade Show.

The Americans lead the series, 6-4-1, but have lost the last two competitions in Europe. … Grubb & Ellis Co. announces that FX Global Investment, an investment firm based in South Korea, purchases Trilogy Golf Club at Glen Ivy, an 18-hole golf course in Corona, Calif. The sale price was not disclosed. The course, which opened for play in 2002, was sold by Shea Homes. … RDC Golf Group Inc. promotes Andrea Graziosi to director of food and beverage at Olde York Country Club in Chesterfield, N.J.

Mike Calbot and Dennis Walters will perform exhibitions at the ACE Group Classic at Quail West Golf and Country Club in Naples, Fla. Calbot will display his trick-shot instruction on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m.; Walters will hold his show on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 4 p.m. … The ACE Group Classic announces that eight hall of fame members will compete in its pro-am, Feb. 13-14 in Naples, Fla. The players are Marcel Dionne and Rod Gilbert (hockey); John Havlicek and Sam Jones (basketball); Jim Rice (baseball); and Jan Stenerud, Anthony Munoz and Earl Morrall (football). … Entries are now being accepted for the Georgia State Golf Association‘s Presidents Day Golf Scramble, Feb. 18 at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta.
