USGA Awards 84 New Grants Totaling $1.6 Million

The U.S. Golf Association awards a new round of 84 grants totaling $1,675,964 to non-profit organizations that will reach nearly 50,000 economically disadvantaged children and individuals with disabilities.

The Colorado Golf Association announces that its 2007 CGA championship and qualifier schedule is complete. The CGA season gets underway May 7-8 with the Four-Ball and Net Four-Ball Championships hosted by the City of Westminster courses, The Heritage at Westmoor and Legacy Ridge Golf Course. … The first PGA Golf Academy in Asia opens at Bayhood No. 9 in Beijing, China. The academy is housed within the Nelson Haworth-designed driving range, which is a state-of-the-art two-tier facility, incorporating 40 bays on the ground floor and 23 VIP rooms on the top floor, each featuring two independent bays.The academy includes four state-of-the-art swing studios, fitted out with leading edge

Left-handed teaching professionals Seth Glasco and Nick Kumpis held the SouthPaw Golf Academy‘s inaugural school on March 10 in Yorba Linda, Calif. … Eleven full-tuition and housing scholarships to the University of Colorado were recently awarded to the finalists for the Eisenhower-Evans Caddie Scholarship — a need-based scholarship that is awarded annually to young men and women who have caddied for a minimum of two summers and who meet the other criteria of outstanding scholarship, personal character and financial need. The recipients of the scholarship are Stephan Berkower, Daniel Bressan, Brandon Cleghorn, Nathan Cook, Amanda Covington, Conner Gertje, Jacob Kimball, Leigh Levato, Alex Ryan, Ktzysztof Stybaniewicz and Jared Sullivan. … The Tavistock Cup, which pits Orlando, Fla.-based Isleworth Golf and Country Club against Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in a match-play competition, will be televised by the Golf Channel, today, Monday, and Tuesday, noon-5 p.m. ET. … The Millennium Resort Scottsdale McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale, Ariz., is offering its "$100 for $100" package, which gives travelers $100 food and beverage credit when they stay. The package is available June 1-Sept. 17.

Wyndham Championship Names Tournament Committee

James C. Lanik will serve as the 2007 general chairman of the Wyndham Championship. Lanik and the rest of the tournament committee will work directly with tournament director Mark Brazil and his staff.

Power Performance Rankings

Loren Roberts continues to lead the Power Performance Rankings for the Champions Tour. Tom Purtzer moved up three slots from No. 16 to No. 13 with his win at the AT&T Champions Classic.

Kohler, Kuhns, Martz selected to Institute’s board of trustees

The Environmental Institute for Golf elected officers and added three new members to its board of trustees during its winter meeting in Anaheim, Calif., Feb. 19-24. David Pillsbury, president of PGA Tour Golf Course Properties, was elected chairman, and Bob Wood, president of Nike Golf, was elected vice chairman/treasurer.
